KNX-Programming

Everything about KNX Programming

KNX is THE world’s leading standard when it comes to automation of buildings.
But what is expected of a contemporary building installation?

• More convenience and safety

• Save energy and operating costs

• Flexibility and adaptability for future uses and tasks

• Maintenance, monitoring and operation also remotely

• Safety for the future

• Visualisation option

• Investment security

• Increase the value of your property

All this and much more is possible with the KNX technology.

In the KNX/EIB programming made easy book you will learn how to use the KNX bus to implement circuits that would be cumbersome and very costly to achieve with a conventional installation.

The ETS programming tool

The Engineering Tool Software or ETS is the programming tool with which a KNX system is programmed.

The current version of ETS is version 5. Only programs from ETS 4 can be imported into ETS 5. Older program versions are loaded into the ETS 5 with an intermediate step via the ETS 4.

But only the ETS 5 is up to date and further developed! More recent devices will sooner or later no longer receive applications from older manufacturers for older ETS versions. These devices can then only be programmed with the ETS 5. The book explains the basic functions of the ETS 3, ETS 4 and, most recently, the ETS 5 and it comes with numerous screenshots.

What is KNX programming for?

In short, in a KNX system, a switch, also called a push button sensor, is programmed to indicate which
function it should perform. So, for example, what light should be switched on or dimmed.

One device for multiple functions

One KNX device can be used for several functions. The function that a device performs is defined in the user program, also called application.

This, it is possible that a push button switches the light on, dims it or adjusts it to a specific brightness value. By simply changing the parameterisation in the application, the same push button sensor can be reprogrammed so that it no longer switches the light but it controls a blind, for example.

Extending the KNX system

By adding several KNX devices such as sensors, actuators, a weather station, temperature sensors, timers or logic modules, a smart and comfortable building control can be created. This can also be subsequently adapted to each user and their living habits without further ado.
